Summary

All ten Minuteman ICBMs in Echo Flight at Malmstrom AFB went offline simultaneously. Security personnel reported a glowing red object hovering over the facility at the time.

Detail

On March 16, 1967, all ten Minuteman I ICBMs in Echo Flight at Malmstrom AFB, Montana, simultaneously went to "No-Go" status — an unprecedented total loss of alert for an entire missile flight. Security personnel above the facility reported a glowing red disc-shaped object hovering directly overhead in the minutes before the failures began. The simultaneous failure of ten electronically linked but geographically separated silos ruled out random single-point failure. The Air Force could not replicate the failure mode under controlled conditions. It is a foundational case in the nuclear-UAP literature, with officers such as Robert Salas later testifying publicly.
