Detail

Gemini 7 was the tenth crewed American spaceflight. This document transcribes communications between the flight crew, astronauts James "Jim" Lovell and Frank Borman, and the Manned Flight Center (now Johnson Space Center) in Houston, Texas, on December 5, 1965.

The transcript opens with Borman's report of a "bogey" — contemporary terminology for an unknown aircraft — accompanied by a debris field he described as containing hundreds of little particles, which he estimated to be roughly four miles from the spacecraft. Lovell described observing a brilliant body in the sun against a black background, covered with what he called trillions of particles. The document also includes handwritten notes on the encounter, annotated in the top right corner with the phrase "UFO Sighting by Borman."

The record was released through the PURSUE declassification.
