This excerpt from the July 31, 1969 Apollo 11 Technical Crew Debriefing records three observations described by Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin: an object seen on the way to the Moon, repeated flashes of light inside the cabin, and a bright light on the return trip the crew tentatively guessed might be a laser.
Apollo 11 was the third crewed mission to the Moon and the first to land astronauts on the lunar surface. This document is an excerpt from the Apollo 11 Technical Crew Debriefing (Volumes 1 and 2), dated July 31, 1969, highlighting three observations.
Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin recounted seeing an object of sizeable dimension about a day out from the Moon, which the crew examined with a monocular and speculated could be the S-IVB stage of the Saturn V launch vehicle. He also described little flashes of light inside the darkened cabin, spaced a couple of minutes apart, which he noticed over one or two nights. Finally, on the return trip, Aldrin reported a fairly bright light source that the crew tentatively ascribed to a possible laser.
The document was released through the PURSUE declassification.
