Observing as a helicopter passenger, the official recounted encountering unidentified glowing orbs both up close and at a distance, including an apparent high-speed object moving low to the ground that seemed to split in two and accelerate away in two different directions. The official also described numerous higher-altitude orbs, some assessed to be near the helicopter.
The account is accompanied by infrared imagery captured from the ground during the same exercise by other federal officials, originally released on war.gov/UFO on May 8, 2026. A May 26, 2026 correction notes that the version first posted to the PURSUE collection on May 22, 2026 contained a typographic error, describing a helicopter flight profile as "map-of-the-earth"; the correct term is "nap-of-the-earth," and the document has been updated accordingly. The record was released through the PURSUE declassification.
